Defense bill includes $3.65 million for ASU projects
The Arkansas Congressional delegation reported that two ASU research projects received additional funding in the Department of Defense spending bill that was passed Friday and sent to the White House.  The SHADES (Standoff Hazardous Agent Detection and Evaluation System) project will receive $2 million and the SSRID (Standoff Sensor for Radionuclide Identification) project will receive $1.65 million.  Congratulations to the ASU faculty who are working as investigators on these anti-terrorism projects.

Ray Winters to be honored as outstanding alum
Ray Winters, Radiologic Sciences, will be honored Oct. 28 by the College of Arts and Sciences at Harding University.  He is one of two alumni being recognized for outstanding professional achievement.

College preparation is NextStep goal
As reported in a previous edition of Inside ASU, "NextStep for Arkansas' Future" is expected to have a significant impact on high school students' preparation for college. On the NextStep web site, a sub-page for educators provides an excellent summary about Smart Core, high school redesign, and a Powerpoint presentation on the national perspective.

Northpark Quads #3 is for Honors Program students
Building 3 of North Park Quads has been designated as The Honors College Hall, and is home to first year and upper-class Honors College students. Ribbon cutting for Quads will be Friday morning at 11 a.m.

Comedy act Second City to perform at Fowler Center
The Fowler Center at ASU will present the comedy act Second City on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 9-10, at 7:30 p.m. Second City has been described as a cross between “Saturday Night Live” and “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” Second City will perform "Truth, Justice, or the American Way." Individual tickets to the Second City performances are $23 and $15 for faculty and staff members; ASU students pay only $10 and $6.  Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office 870-972-2781 or 1-888-278-3267, or online at http://tickets.astate.edu.
