Dr. Haran receives NASA EPSCoR
award
Dr. Shivan Haran, Mechanical Engineering , has received a
NASA EPSCoR Research
Infrastructure Development Planning and Preparatory (RID P&P) award
for his project, "Structure Health Monitoring for Space Structures
by Using Thin-film Piezoelectric Networks." He will work jointly
with
Dr. Guoliang Huang, principal investigator, Systems Engineering,
UALR. The project involves a new structural health monitoring
technique using MEMs-based piezoelectric active sensors to provide a
comprehensive study of the dynamic behavior of composite plate
structures, aiding in the development of a new and reliable
technique for online self-monitoring systems for large space
structures that are integrated with thin-film piezoelectric sensor
systems. Such research addresses the need for safe and reliable
advanced space exploration vehicle and propulsion systems that are
key to NASA's human and space technology (HR&T) objectives of the
Space Exploration Initiative.
