KASU to rebroadcast mayoral candidate interviews
KASU 91.9 FM will rebroadcast one-on-one interviews with each of the
four Jonesboro mayoral candidates at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25
and again at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28. KASU’s Mark Smith
initially conducted these interviews live on the air earlier this
month as part of the popular program, Morning Edition. Each
candidate was given a list of potential topics open for discussion
in the interviews, but specific questions were not be given to the
candidates in advance. Each candidate was interviewed for
approximately 20 minutes. Station manager Mike Doyle noted that the
great interest in the mayoral race prompted the station to broadcast
these interviews with Jonesboro's outstanding array of candidates
again. KASU is a National Public Radio member-station and the
broadcasting service of Arkansas State University.
Journalist and media critic Jennifer L.
Pozner to speak
ASU’s Office of Multicultural
Affairs will present journalist, author, and media critic Jennifer L. Pozner in a multi-media lecture geared
for a college audience.
Her
lecture, “Gender, Race, and Media in Election 2008,” will be held
Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. in
the Student Union Auditorium. The
presentation is free and open to the public. Pozner is a journalist, a lecturer, and the founder and
executive director of Women In Media & News (WIMN), a national media
analysis, education, and advocacy group dedicated to increasing women’s
presence and power in public debate.

Tuba and
Euphonium ensemble concert to be held Oct. 27
The Department of Music at ASU will present
the ASU Tuba and Euphonium
Ensemble in concert on Monday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 in the Minx Recital
Hall of the Fine Arts Center.

Workshop for all academic advisors to
be held Oct. 28-29
A workshop "NCAA Academic Requirements and Progress Toward Degree:
Advising the Student-Athlete," will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 28 and
repeated on Wednesday, Oct. 29 for all faculty and staff academic
advisors. The workshops will begin at 2 p.m. each day in the board
room on the 8th floor of the Dean B. Ellis Library. The workshop
will review the NCAA academic requirements and progress toward
degree required for all student athletes to be eligible to compete.
All academic advisors are encouraged to attend.
Celebrations
for Torchbearers to be held Nov. 18
All faculty and staff are
encouraged to cast a vote for excellence and join 478 campus
colleagues who are Torchbearers. The Torchbearers platform provides
funding to enhance the academic year at ASU-Jonesboro. Torchbearers
allows members to enjoy tax deduction benefits and perks, as well.
Torchbearers give $50 or more annually to support their respective
colleges, departments, academic programs, scholarships of their
choice, Santa’s Wolves, KASU, or any of the hundreds of funds in the
ASU Foundation. In return, Torchbearers receive a long-sleeved
t-shirt and are invited to a celebration on November 18--members may
