Board of Trustees approves faculty promotions and tenure
During a meeting this morning, the ASU Board of Trustees approved faculty promotions and tenure for 21 faculty members. Congratulations to those who were approved for promotion to professor or associate professor and/or for tenure. This approval follows review by the University Promotion, Retention, and Tenure Committee and recommendation of the administration. For a complete listing of faculty members awarded tenure and/or promotion, see the NewsPage release.

Governor Beebe to receive honorary doctorate
The ASU Board of Trustees today agreed to award the honorary Doctor of Laws degree to Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and exemplary public service to the people of Arkansas. ASU-Jonesboro's chancellor, Dr. Robert L. Potts, will present the degree at the first of two graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 5, at 10 a.m. The public is welcome to attend. For details, see the NewsPage release.

Pickens awarded emeritus trustee status
In a meeting on the campus of ASU-Mountain Home, the ASU Board of Trustees voted unanimously to award the designation Trustee Emeritus to Jim Pickens, former chair of the Board of Trustees. Pickens was twice appointed to the Arkansas State University Board of Trustees, in 1998 and in 2005, by Gov. Mike Huckabee. He served with distinction, offering wise counsel and expending untiring effort on behalf of the university, before stepping down earlier this year.
