Benefits open enrollment begins Wednesday
The Office of Human Resources will begin the open enrollment period for faculty and staff benefits Wednesday, Nov. 1, and continue through Nov.30. More details are available on the HR web site.

State Board approves course transfer system
The Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved the Arkansas Course Transfer System (ACTS) during the board's meeting Friday in Russellville. The Legislature had directed the board to create a transfer curriculum for all public two-year colleges and universities by Dec. 1, 2006. The mandate specified that all freshmen and sophomore general education courses be accepted for full transfer credit in the appropriate subject area. A Department of Higher Education news release provides more detail about ACTS and other board actions.

Medicinal plants expert to present conferences
While on campus this week to conduct two scientific conferences, Dr. Rodolfo Quintero will discuss possibilities for collaborative projects with ASU representatives and the Arkansas Biosciences Institute. He also will present the “biotechnology of petroleum” in ABI Room 107 at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2. The second presentation, “biotechnology of medicinal plants,” will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, in the Student Union Auditorium. United Way campaign at ASU extended to Nov. 3
The United Way Campaign at ASU has been extended to Friday, Nov. 3. There is still time to turn in pledge cards to Jill Bristow in University Advancement.  Anyone with questions about United Way or the campaign may her at ext. 3362. A drawing for all donors will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8.  For more information on the campaign and for a list of the incentive prizes click here.

Staff may apply for Staff Senate Educational Stipends
In case you missed the announcement Friday, ASU staff members who take classes or have a dependent who does are eligible for the Staff Senate Educational Stipend. The Staff Senate will award at least 10 stipends of at least $200 each for the spring semester. These funds have been raised through the silent auction and bake sale at the annual Employee Picnic. The list of qualifications and application form are on the Staff Senate website: http://staffsenate.astate.edu/2007Application.pdf. The deadline is Nov. 1.

Residence Life offers tricks and treats tonight
Reminder: The Office of Residence Life invites all faculty and staff and family to the annual Halloween activities, 6-8 p.m. tonight. A Halloween Festival, sponsored by the First Year Experience Halls, will be held at University Hall. Collegiate Park Apartments will host a cookout, games, and trick or treating. Northpark Quads also will host trick or treating, with ASU students as guides. Parking will be available in the parking garage.  For details, call Residence Life, ext. 2042.
