Candidates for chancellor visiting today, Wednesday
Chancellor candidates will visit the campus today and Wednesday, and Monday and Wednesday of next week.  The schedule includes Dr. Kaylene Gebert, today; Dr. John Dunn, Wednesday; Dr. Thomas Harden, Monday, Sept.18; and Dr. John Folkins, Wednesday, Sept. 20. During each respective visit, the candidate will participate in an open campus forum at 3:30 p.m. in the Student Union Auditorium. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Dukes of Dixieland open Fowler Center season
The Fowler Center opens its 2006-07 season Saturday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. with the Dukes of Dixieland. The Dukes of Dixieland bring traditional jazz and Dixieland into the 21st Century, weaving strands of pop, gospel, and country with authentic New Orleans sounds.
  Tickets to the Dukes of Dixieland performance have varying prices, depending upon groups, seating or whether purchased as part of a season package. Special ASU student rates are only $10 and $6. Power of Hope Celebration set for Sept. 26
The College of Nursing and Health Professions is hosting the Power of Hope Celebration in coordination with several local healthcare organizations that are planning similar events. ASU's Power of Hope Celebration will be Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 2-3 p.m. in the Student Union Auditorium. The event will include invited speakers Angie Schmidt, Nursing, and Troy Vincent, Counseling, as well as great music from the Department of Music. The event is celebratory, as each of the speakers has overcome life's obstacles and benefited from the power of hope. Everyone is invited.
 
Faculty Center to present teaching seminars
Reminder:  On Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 13-14, renowned scholar and educator Dee Fink will conduct seminars on the latest teaching methods in the college classroom. "So What is Good Teaching and How Can We Promote More of It" will be Wednesday from 1:30 - 3 p.m., and "Designing Courses for More Significant Learning Experiences" will be Thursday, 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. and repeated at 1 p.m., all in the Student Union Auditorium. The Faculty Center for Learning and Teaching is sponsoring the event, and will give away copies of Fink's book to four lucky winners at each of the Thursday sessions.  Click here for more details from the Faculty Center.

Zibluk on editorial board for Communication publication
Dr. Jack Zibluk, Journalism, has been named to serve on the editorial board of Visual Communication Quarterly.  He recently was featured on the quarterly's new web site.

Dougan speaks at symposium on Civil War
Dr. Michael Dougan, History, recently presented The Arkansas Secession Convention in Action, March-June, 1861 at the Old State House Museum for the annual Civil War symposium in Little Rock.

Dept. of Nursing offers disaster-related training
The Department of Nursing, which is the Regional Training Center for Disaster Life Support, will be sponsoring two disaster-related training courses. The Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS) is a review of all hazards including natural and man-made events and will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, or Friday, Oct. 6. The Advance Disaster Life Support (ADLS) is offered, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3 & 4. The ADLS is an advanced practicum course with training focused on the development of “hands on” skills.
