Recommended disaster-related
training courses offered

Sept. 7, 2006 - Arkansas Sate University's Department of Nursing, which is the Regional Training Center for Disaster Life Support, will be sponsoring two disaster-related training courses.

Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS) is offered on Friday, Sept. 15, in the Mockingbird Room in the Student Union or Friday, Oct. 6, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Hames Room in the Convocation Center. The BDLS course is a review of all hazards including natural and accidental man-made events, traumatic and explosive events, nuclear and radiological events, chemical events; Move Access Sort and Send (MASS) triage; and Immediate Delayed Minimal and Expectant (Id-Me). The cost for this course is $75 and $65 for ASU students.

Advance Disaster Life Support (ADLS) is offered Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Mockingbird Room in the Student Union. The ADLS is an advanced practicum course with training focused on the development of “hands on” skills to allow participants to apply knowledge learned in BDLS. The cost for this course is $175 and $150 for ASU students.

These courses are highly recommended for community and civic leaders, educators, health professionals, law enforcement, students and anyone interested in being prepared. Participants will receive 7.5 hours of continuing medical education and health-care or 7.5 hours of continuing education from ASU Department of Nursing which is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Arkansas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
