Alumni Association travels to Memphis Redbirds game
Sunday, July 18, is ASU Day with the Memphis Redbirds at Autozone Park. The Greater Memphis and Craighead County Alumni Chapters of the Arkansas State University Alumni Association are hosting the event for the 2 p.m. game. Alumni Association President Bob Earwood will throw the first pitch and ASU will be highlighted throughout the day on the big screen and message boards. The first 1,000 people will receive an Astate fan. Alumni can purchase discounted chair back seats for Section 115 for $7.50 per person through the Alumni Association. In addition, alumni are invited to eat lunch in the picnic pavilion (all-you-can-eat pulled pork BBQ, hot dogs and drinks) from 12:30-2:30 p.m. for $14 per person. The Redbirds require that game tickets and meal wristbands are mailed prior to the game, so tickets and meal requests must be received in Alumni Relations by this Friday, July 9, in order to mail the information by game day. For more information, call 870-972-2586 or email alumni@astate.edu or visit ASU alumni.

KASU: Jazz on the Lawn is Thursday at The Edge
Thursday, July 8, from 7-9 p.m., KASU will sponsor the first ever "Jazz on the Lawn." This free concert will feature the jazz group El Bu'ho and Friends at The Edge Coffee House. "El Bu'ho" is the South American nickname given to internationally known jazz trumpeter Gary Gazaway. Gazaway, who grew up in northeast Arkansas, was influenced by the region's rich musical heritage of blues, gospel, soul, jazz and rockabilly. His band tours regularly throughout the Midwest and Southwest. This performance is sponsored by The Edge and First Community Bank.

Wilson Advising Center to host mentor program this fall
As part of the new Early Alert Program, the Wilson Advising Center will host the Next Steps Mentor Program where managers, directors and administrators are putting aside one day of their regularly scheduled commitments to serve in the advising center and meet with first-year students. This new program is slightly more aggressive than in the past, since it requires all first-year students to meet with someone in the mentor program during weeks three through five of the fall semester. For more details, please contact Jill Simons at 870-972-3001 or via email at jsimons@astate.edu.
