State Farm grant assists ASU teacher development
State Farm Insurance has awarded a grant of $5,760 to the Arkansas Council on Economic Education (ACEE) and to the ASU Center for Economic Education. Sue Owens, executive director of ACEE in Little Rock, and Dr. Larry Dale, director, ASU Center for Economic Education, were on hand to accept the grant. The grant will provide continuing education workshops for high school teachers in northeast, eastern, and central Arkansas in the field of finance education. The ASU Center for Economic Education works in tandem with ACEE to raise awareness and promote use of the principles of finance education in grades K-12 throughout the poorest quarter of the state. The center trains teachers to instruct students in general banking principles, and to understand and judiciously use credit, with special reference to interest rates. State Farm is the largest insurer of homes and automobiles, both in Arkansas and in the nation. The insurance company believes that understanding real-life financial issues is fundamental to creating educated consumers and money managers.
