International workshop on hairy
roots
research
Dr.
Fabricio Medina-Bolivar, ABI and Biological Sciences, and Dr.
Argelia Lorence, ABI and Chemistry and Physics, are organizing the
first International Workshop on Hairy Roots at the Arkansas
Biosciences Institute on Thursday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This event is sponsored by ABI and the
Phytochemical Society of North America (http://www.psna-online.org).
The program includes morning lectures by invited speakers, two from
abroad, and hands-on laboratory techniques in the afternoon. Space
for this workshop is limited and advance registration is required.

Students may take advantage of the
workshop and register as a course. You will be required to attend
additional lectures (undergraduate and graduate students) and write
a short proposal (graduate students only). For details, contact the

Dr. Lombeida selected for NEH program
Dr. Ernesto Lombeida, Spanish, has been
selected as one of 450 faculty members nationwide to attend summer
study opportunities supported by the National Endowment for the
Humanities. The Endowment is a federal agency that each summer
supports seminars and institutes at colleges and universities so
that teachers can work in collaboration and study with experts in
humanities disciplines. Lombeida will participate in the five-week
program, “Representations of the ‘Other’: Jews in Medieval
Christendom" at Oxford University’s Centre for Hebrew and Jewish
Studies.

Summer Children's Theatre
opens June 21
The
Theatre Department announces the 2006 season schedule for the Summer
Children's Theatre.
The 11th season will open with Nick Tickle, Fairy Tale Detective
on June 21, continuing with performances also on June 22 and 23.
Nick Tickle, Fairy Tale Detective is sponsored by Brackett-Krennerich
& Associates, Architects.
The second production of the season will be Who's Afraid of the Big
Bad Wolf with performances dates on July 26, 27 & 28. Who's
Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf is sponsored by The Golden Grotto.

New
Student Orientation
tomorrow
The third session of
New Student Orientation (NSO) will be Tuesday beginning at
7:45 a.m. with registration in the Student Union, followed by a
welcoming in the Auditorium at 8:30 a.m. NSO will continue
throughout the day across campus.

see a schedule. The NSO sessions are all full through Tuesday,
June 20. However, Office of Admissions is taking reservations for
other dates, which are on June 22 & 27, July
11 & 25 and Aug. 1 & 18.

Search Committee
meeting postponed
The Chancellor Search Committee meeting that was scheduled for today
was postponed because of members' scheduling conflicts.
The meeting will be re-scheduled.
