Board of Trustees Meeting update
The ASU Board of Trustees met on Friday, May 7, and approved several items
on a lengthy agenda that included faculty promotions and
tenure. In case you missed Friday's email, see
faculty.
Tuition increases to support several institutional priorities were approved for ASU-Jonesboro, ASU-Beebe, ASU-Mountain
Home and ASU-Newport as well as a special fee for courses at ASU-Jonesboro
in the College of Nursing and Health Professions and the College of Business.
An increase of an additional $10 in the annual vehicle registration fee
was approved, as well as a new $2 per credit hour library fee.
Also approved were the fiscal year 2004-05 operating
budgets; restructuring
of the College of Business into four departments (Accounting and Law;
Computer and Information Technology; Economics and Finance; Management
and Marketing); an increase in vacation accrual for non-classified staff
to 15 hours per month or 22.5 days vacation per year; and naming of The
Larry Lacewell Locker Room.
New academic programs for ASU-Jonesboro were approved:
Bachelor of Science in Early Care and Education, graduate certificate in
Criminal Justice, and an emphasis in Global History in the Master of
Arts in History.
TIAA-CREF Seminar on campus this
week
TIAA-CREF will be offering
individual financial counseling sessions on campus this Wednesday, May
12, and Thursday, May 13. The Wednesday session will be held from 8:30
a.m. - 5 p.m. and the Thursday session will be held from 8:30 a.m. until
3:30 p.m. in the Environmental Research, Safety & Training Building.
Consultants will be available to answer questions and help with
long-term strategies, basic investment choices and TIAA-CREF retirement
income flexibility. To schedule a session, please register at tiaa-cref.org/moc

Cinco de Mayo rescheduled for
Saturday, May 15
The Cinco de Mayo Art and Music Festival was postponed from
May 1 (due to inclement weather) to this Saturday, May 15, in downtown
Jonesboro from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Cinco de Mayo will be a day
full of good food, live music, arts and crafts with lots of children's
activities. More than 2,000 people attended last year. ASU is one of
several sponsors for this event and volunteers are still needed! Please

Employee Picnic coming up May 26
The ASU Staff Senate is sponsoring a Bake
Sale and Silent Auction in conjunction with the the annual employee picnic on Wednesday, May 26. The
picnic will be held at the ASU Pavilion from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to make homemade cookies or bring side dishes or
serve at the picnic. If you can help in any way, please call Ann Ford at
2067 or contact her at
aford@astate.edu. 18 volunteers are needed to make baked beans and
20 volunteers are needed to make potato salad. Volunteers are also
needed to help with the silent auction. Proceeds from the bake sale and
silent auction will benefit the Staff Senate Discretionary Fund.
Summer Children's Theatre in June and
July
If you are looking for activities for
your children, note that The ASU Theatre has released the
schedule for the 2004 Summer Children’s Theatre season. The eighth
annual season will open with Raggedy Ann & Andy June 23 at 10
a.m. and 2 p.m. Additional performances will be presented June 24 at 10
a.m. and June 25 at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The second production of the 2004
season will be Sleeping Beauty: The Hundred Year Adventure July
28 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Additional performances will be presented July
29 at 10 a.m. and July 30 at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. All performances will
be at Fowler Center with all reserved seating. Tickets should
be purchased in advance at the ASU Central Box Office for $3.50, by
calling 972-ASU1, or online at
tickets.astate.edu. Reserved seating tickets (if available)
may be purchased at the door prior to the performance for $3.50. Advanced reservations are recommended.
