Distinguished Performance Award nominations due
Monday, April 7, 5 p.m., is the deadline for nominations for
Distinguished Performance Awards. In 1994, ASU began honoring non-faculty employees with Distinguished Performance Awards and also began to recognize
non-faculty employees who contributed significant years of service
to ASU. The 2008 Distinguished Performance Award and Service
Recognition ceremony marks the 14th year for this event. As of this
year, more than 130 Distinguished Performance Awards have been
presented, and more than 720 employees have been recognized for
significant years of service to ASU. Nomination forms are available
online for
Distinguished Performance awards and the student-nominated
Customer Service Award. For details, and to return forms, contact
event chair Tami Freeman at 680-4051,
Student Union 2011, or see
the NewsPage release.
ASU Mid-South Honor Band event
tomorrow
The College of Fine
Arts and the Department of Music at Arkansas State University announce
the first ASU Mid-South Honor Band event to
be held tomorrow in Fowler Center. This event is designed primarily for
high school juniors and sophomores. Students from more than 20
different high schools across the state and region will attend. Students
will rehearse during the morning and afternoon and present a concert
beginning at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow night. Admission is free. The ASU Wind
Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Timothy Oliver, will lead the musicians of
the ASU Wind Ensemble in a short concert presentation following the
Mid-South Honor Band performance.
For details, call the music department office, ext. 2094, or see the
NewsPage release.
Twin Towers demolition
scheduled for May
ASU will demolish the vacant Twin Towers residence hall, 100
South Driver, by controlled implosion on Sunday, May
25. The
early-morning hour
is not yet fixed. Chandler Demolition of Memphis has been awarded
the contract for the demolition and hauling away of debris.
The implosion
sub-contractor is
Controlled Demolition Incorporated of Baltimore.
Preparatory work on
the site began March 31, and all asbestos, lead paint, PCB ballasts,
and mercury-containing light fixtures have been removed.
The
implosion is expected to take 15 seconds, but eight weeks of
preparatory work are required beforehand. For details,
contact
University Relations director
Markham Howe at ext.2940, or Project Manager
Terry Carty, 680-4729.
Inside ASU to observe
Convocation of Scholars Week
Inside ASU will observe Convocation of Scholars Week April 7-11 with
an alteration in its regular publication schedule. Instead of the
usual Monday, Wednesday, and Friday editions, Inside ASU will appear
as two special editions on Tuesday and Thursday of next week. As of
Monday, April 14, the regular publication schedule will resume.
Inside ASU, ASU News, stress
importance of deadlines
Because of recent personnel
changes, the staff of Inside ASU, the electronic
faculty/staff newsletter, reminds all contributors of the importance
of observing submission deadlines. Send newsletter news items to
Markham Howe and/or
Sara McNeil at least 2 weeks prior to the dates on which events will occur for
publication in Inside ASU. Faculty
and staff requiring assistance with the preparation and distribution
of news releases to outside media outlets should supply drafts of releases 4 weeks prior
to the targeted date of the release. Please be advised that due to the
highly productive nature of ASU faculty,
we currently have an extensive backlog of faculty items. All
faculty and staff items are important to us, and we will include
them all. However, items requiring no specific publication date will run in order of receipt.
The staff thanks you in advance for your patience. For details, contact
Sara McNeil, ext. 3633.
