Board of Trustees meeting scheduled
The Arkansas State University Board of Trustees will meet on Friday, March 6, at 10 a.m. in the Technology Building on the ASU-Searcy campus. For a complete list of future board meetings, click on the calendar page for the ASU System Web site. For those on the Jonesboro campus who wish to listen to the proceedings, a conference call will be set up in the Chancellor's conference room in the Administration Building.

2009 Sun Belt Conference offers academic summit
ASU will participate in the second Academic Summit scheduled as part of the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Basketball Tournament at the Hot Springs Convention Center, Rooms 208-209, Saturday-Tuesday, March 7-10. The summit, which includes faculty athletics representatives, senior woman administrators, and Sun Belt Conference officials, will meet for the second consecutive year to discuss concerns among conference schools about academic progress rate (APR) and how to prevent and manage problems. Sun Belt Conference hosts pep band spectacular
On Friday, March 6, at 7 p.m., the 2009 Sun Belt Conference will host the Sun Belt Conference Pep Band Spectacular. More than 500 musicians will converge on Horner Hall to take part in the event. The pep band spectacular will kick off the championship weekend and provide fans with family-friendly entertainment. Admission to the spectacular is free, and complimentary hot dogs, popcorn, and Coke products will be available. Each band representing the 13 Sun Belt schools will perform two pieces from its repertoire, there will be a mass performance from all the bands, and individual members from each band will combine to form the Sun Belt Band, which will perform a tribute to the 70s with a classic rock medley. Strong-Turner Alumni chapter holds phonathon
The Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter (STAC), a chapter of the ASU Alumni Association focusing on African-American alumni and friends of the university, is conducting a membership phonathon through March 9 to encourage membership in the chapter. More than 25 volunteers will be making calls from ASU's Cooper Alumni Center in the late afternoon and early evening to current and potential members of the Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter. The volunteers hope to encourage people to join the chapter or renew their membership.
