Education mini-summit to be held at
Convocation Center
The Next Step for
Arkansas' Future mini-summits will address redesigning Arkansas high
schools to improve the value of a high school diploma, according to
Arkansas Department of Education Commissioner Dr. Ken James. A
mini-summit will be held Tuesday, Dec. 12, at ASU's Convocation
Center from 10 a.m.-noon, followed by round-table discussions from
noon-1 p.m. Lunch will be served. Entry and lunch are free, but

New publication
from Dr. Marlay
Dr. Ross Marlay, Political Science, has a new publication,
“Filipino Muslims and Global Jihad,” in a book edited by Daniel H. Unger and Clark D. Neher,
Bureaucracy and National Security in Southeast Asia
(Northern Illinois University). The article
was co-authored with former student Lesley Pruitt. Dr. Marlay, a former Fulbright
senior lecturer in the Philippines, has written extensively on Burma
and has written two books with Clark D. Nehrer, Patriots and
Tyrants: Ten Asian Leaders and Democracy and Development in
Southeast Asia: The Winds of Change.
Identity Solutions Symposium and
Workshop to be held
ASU-Jonesboro will host the
Identity Solutions Symposium and Workshop
on
Wednesday-Thursday, Feb. 21- 22, 2007. The symposium is the first
step in the creation of the Delta Center for Identity Solutions at
ASU. Dr. Elizabeth Hood, Research and Technology
Transfer, and Dr. Farhad Moeeni, Computer and Information
Technology, are the project's principle investigators and
oversee the budget. ASU will partner with the University of Arkansas
and the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on this interdisciplinary

Art Department holds annual
holiday sale
The Fine Arts Center is home
to the Art Department's annual holiday sale, featuring pottery from
faculty and students. The sale opens Thursday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m.-9
p.m., and continues Friday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and
Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Don't miss your chance to
purchase signed, authentic pieces from your colleagues.
Students may charge at
Bookstore through Jan. 9
The Finance and Enrollment Services Offices
have announced that ASU-Jonesboro students may purchase textbooks
from the ASU Bookstore via a charge procedure. Textbooks can be
charged to students' accounts via student ID cards. No prior
approval from other departments will be needed. Tuesday, Jan. 9,
will be the absolute last day to charge textbooks onto student
accounts. The availability of excess balances will be delayed until
after the end of the first week of classes to facilitate textbook
