Enrollment hits 15-year high at ASU-Jonesboro
At today's Board of Trustees meeting, Chancellor Robert L. Potts is reporting that fall semester enrollment at ASU-Jonesboro is the highest recorded since 1992. The unofficial unduplicated headcount for all instructional sites associated with ASU-Jonesboro stands at 10,934. This number represents an increase of 207 over last year's tally. New freshmen headcount is up slightly at 1,739, while graduate student headcount went up 105 to 1,492. Preliminary fall semester enrollment highlights and performance indicators are available from the Office of Institutional Research and Planning as PDF documents.

Legislative Day events will honor Gov. Mike Beebe
ASU will conduct its annual Legislative Day activities Saturday on the Jonesboro campus. Gov. Mike Beebe, a 1968 ASU alumnus and former member of the ASU Board of Trustees, will be honored for his leadership and his support of higher education. Beebe will be recognized during an afternoon luncheon for legislators and state officials, and again at the ASU football game against the University of Memphis.

Federal Department of Energy official visits campus
Through arrangements made by Congressman Marion Berry, a federal Department of Energy official visited the ASU campus to talk with faculty members about their research. Dr. John F. Mizroch, principal deputy assistant secretary in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, heard presentations from four researchers and also toured the laser lab and Arkansas Biosciences Institute. Mizroch's office invests in energy technologies that provide efficient, clean, and renewable energy.

BEST Robotic Competition announces 6-week schedule
ASU's Department of Computer Science and College of Engineering sponsor the Crowley's Ridge Hub for the BEST Robotics Competition. This nationwide program aims to raise student awareness of education and job opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The six-week-long competition centers around three events: Kickoff Day, on Saturday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., at Fowler Center; Mall Day, Oct. 6, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Turtle Creek Mall, and Game Day, Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., at the ASU Armory. Purchase tickets now for 'A Face in the Crowd' celebration
The 50th anniversary celebration for the landmark film, "A Face in the Crowd," takes place at the Piggott Community Center, on Saturday, Sept. 15. Distinguished actress Patricia Neal will be the honored guest, along with noted film critic Dr. Foster Hirsch. The event includes a showing of the movie, a banquet with Neal, and a presentation by Hirsch. The deadline for purchasing tickets is Tuesday, Sept. 11, due to limited seating. Several ASU alumni were involved in film production; the ASU Alumni Association is co-sponsoring the event. For more details, call the Piggott City Hall at 870-598-3791.


Monday is makeup day for yearbook photos
Faculty and staff have one more chance . . . Monday, Sept. 10, is makeup day for yearbook photos. Child Art Studio will make photos in the center court area of the Student Union from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
