Dr. Blake Wintory appointed at Lakeport Plantation
Dr. Blake Wintory has been appointed assistant director and facilities manager at Lakeport Plantation, an Arkansas State University Heritage Site in Lake Village, Ark. He will begin working at Lakeport on Monday, August 25. Dr. Wintory is currently director of research and interpretation for the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock, a Department of Arkansas Heritage museum celebrating African American history, culture, and community in Arkansas. He has been with the museum since December 2004 and worked to develop the new center, scheduled to open to the public in September. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Anthropology, and in 2005 he received a doctorate in Environmental Dynamics with a specialization in environmental and Southern history, all from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. While at UAF, he taught courses in anthropology and was named “Influential Instructor” by graduating seniors and the Division of Student Affairs. He was also the recipient of the Samuel C. Dellinger Award in the Department of Anthropology. For details, see the NewsPage release.


Farewell reception for Fowler Center director
A farewell r
eception for Fowler Center director Jerome Biebesheimer will be held Wednesday, August 27, from 2-4 p.m., in the Grand Hall, Fowler Center. Biebesheimer has served as director of ASU's Fowler Center for the past eight years, and he also was responsible for developing the popular Fowler Center Series.

Bradbury Gallery opens season with 'Confluence'

ASU’s Bradbury Gallery, located in Fowler Center, will present its opening exJohn Salvest, "Locust"hibition for the fall semester, “Confluence: Work by Gayle Pendergrass and John Salvest.” This bi-annual event is one in a series featuring two faculty members from the ASU Department of Art. The opening reception will be held Thursday, Aug.  28, at 5 p.m. “Confluence” runs through Friday, Sept. 26. Bradbury Gallery hours are 12 noon-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 2-5 p.m. Sunday; the gallery is closed on Monday. Both exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. ASU Community & Organization Fair
The Student Activities Board (SAB) will hold the annual ASU Community & Organization Fair on Wednesday, August 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the lawn area between Wilson Hall and the Administration Building. This event provides an opportunity for area businesses and organizations, as well as ASU departments and service areas to inform the ASU community of their programs and services. To reserve a booth, contact Jerrod Lockhart in the Leadership Center at ext. 2055.
