National Science Foundation awards
ASSET grant
The
Arkansas Science & Technology Authority has been awarded a $9
million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to
establish the Arkansas ASSET Initiative (Advancing and Supporting
Science, Engineering and Technology). The award was made through
NSF’s Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, which
is better known by its acronym, EPSCoR. The ASSET initiative will
boost two research areas that are developing in Arkansas:
plant-based bioproduction and wireless nano-bio-info-technology
sensors.
Dr.
Carole Cramer, Arkansas Biosciences Institute at ASU, said the grant
will support the development of a Plant Powered Production (P3)
Center, a multi-institutional, cross-disciplinary center for
research at the interface of agriculture, energy, environment, and

College of Nursing and Health Professions is 25 years old
ASU's College of Nursing and Health Professions celebrates its 25th
anniversary on Thursday, Aug. 30, from 3-5 p.m. in Centennial Hall,
Reng Student Services Center/Student Union.
Friends and alumni of
the college are invited to attend the “birthday party” celebration,
which will feature cake, t-shirts, door prizes, and various
displays, according to Dr. Susan Hanrahan, dean of the college.

Dr. Stewart publishes book chapter
Dr.
Patrick Stewart, Public Administration and Center for Social
Research, recently published a book chapter in the Handbook of
Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. He wrote chapter 12.3,
"Comparability Studies for Later Generation Products -- Plant-Made
Pharmaceuticals." Shayne Cox Gad is editor, and the book is
published by John Wiley and Sons.
ASU Printing Services change announced
Pradeep Mishra, Graphic Communications, has been
named head
of
ASU's Printing Services. Mishra, on the faculty of ASU since 2001,
was formerly general manager and plant manager of Tata Donnelly
Limited, India's largest commercial printer. Dave Maloch will assist Mishra
with day-to-day printing plant operations. Mishra also serves as the faculty advisor to
ASU's Indian Student Organization (ISO) and
faculty advisor to the International Student Association (ISA) and
Gamma Epsilon Tau printing fraternity.
Yearbook photos for faculty and staff next week
Yearbook portraits by Child Art Studio will be made next week,
Monday through Friday, Aug. 27-31, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the
Student Union, center court area. Yearbook photos are used widely
within the university, including reproduction in Inside ASU. Anyone
who does not have a current photo (made in the past three years) on
file should have a photo made next week.
Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day deadline approaches
Reminder: The deadline for registration for Faculty/Staff
Appreciation Day is Friday, Aug. 24.

Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day is Saturday, Sept. 15, 4-5 p.m.,
prior to the 6 p.m. kickoff for the ASU vs. SMU home football game.
