Dr. Srivatsan presents research,
information on ASU
Dr.
Malathi Srivatsan, Molecular Biology, recently returned from
Bangalore, India, after serving as an invited distinguished speaker
at the Fifth International Conference on Smart Materials, Structures
and Systems at the Indian Institute of Sciences.
Dr. Srivatsan
spoke on “Nanomaterials for Differentiation, Growth, and Repair in
the Nervous System.” She was interviewed by a major Indian newspaper,
The Indian Express, on the application of nanotechnology to
neuroscience. Dr. Srivatsan was also invited to present a seminar,
“Cholinergic Components in Neuroregeneration” at the National
Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, a premier neuroscience
research facility. Dr. Srivatsan also visited
Training and Advanced
Studies in Management and Communications, Ltd. (TASMAC), an education
consultancy that promotes ASU among prospective students from South

McNeil, Dr. Zibluk, publish textbook
review
Sara E. McNeil,
coordinator, University Communications, and Dr. Jack Zibluk,
Journalism, recently published a
textbook review of Visual Communication: Integrating Media, Art, and
Science, by Rick Williams and Dr. Julianne Newton. The review appeared
in Visual Communication Quarterly, Vol. 15, Issue 3 (July 2008).
Visual Communication Quarterly (VCQ) is the leading international
peer-reviewed journal of theory, research, practical criticism, and
creative work in all areas of visual communication. VCQ is also the
official publication of the Visual Communication Division of the
Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).
Fall Faculty Conference set
for Wednesday
Fall Faculty Conference 2008,
hosted by the Office of Academic Affairs and Research, will be held
Wednesday, Aug. 20, in Centennial Hall, Student Union, third floor.
The annual event begins with a continental breakfast from 8-8:30
a.m. A Faculty Association meeting will be held from 8:30-8:50 a.m.,
and at 9 a.m., Dr. Dan Howard, vice chancellor, Academic
Affairs and Research, will welcome faculty members and introduce ASU
chancellor Dr. Robert L. Potts, who will present a State of
the University address from 9:05-9:30 a.m. From 9:30-11:30,
university updates will be presented on a variety of topics. At
12:15, Dr. Les Wyatt, ASU System president, will present a
system overview and introduce luncheon keynote speaker Dr. Jim
Purcell, executive director, Arkansas Department of Higher
Education. A shared governance workshop will be presented from
1:30-2:45 p.m., and a tenets of fundraising presentation will be
given by Dr. Dan Howard from 3-3:30 p.m. At 3:30-4 p.m., a
presentation will be given on the role of the faculty in the capital
campaign. A faculty family social event will be held at the Pavilion
at 5:30 p.m., co-hosted by the Faculty Association and the Office of
Academic Affairs and Research. Entertainment will be provided by
Paul Moore and Friends and Snap Crow Legs. For details, contact the

Dr. Bouse's presentation
cancelled
The public presentation by
Dr. Gary A. Bouse, set for Tuesday, August 19, 4 p.m., in the
Dean B. Ellis Library boardroom, 8th floor, has been cancelled. Dr. Bouse
is a candidate for the position of vice chancellor, University
Advancement.
