Finalists for vice chancellor to
visit campus
The search committee for vice
chancellor for academic affairs and research is announcing today
that three individuals have been selected as finalists. Each of the
three will visit campus for a one-day visit and public forum during
the second week of September. See the list of finalists and the
schedule of visits in the Newspage announcement.
Fall Faculty Conference
features two keynoters
ASU will begin its 98th year next
week with the Fall Faculty Conference on Wednesday, Aug. 15. The
program includes two keynote speakers: Allyson Lewis, "The Seven
Minute Difference," and Dr. Ron Takaki, "Multicultural America."
Details about the conference are posted on the
Academic Affairs and Research Web site.
Faculty Staff Appreciation Day
will be Sept. 15
Faculty Staff Appreciation Day
has become a fall semester tradition at ASU. This year's event will
be Saturday, Sept. 15, as part of the festivities preceding the
football game against Southern Methodist. For meal tickets, game
tickets and t-shirts, visit the
Faculty Staff Appreciation Day Web page for
access to a registration form and more details. The deadline is Aug.

50th anniversary celebration
for 'A Face in the Crowd'
The ASU Alumni Association and
the city of Piggott will host a
50th
anniversary celebration for the landmark film, "A Face in the
Crowd," at the Piggott Community Center, on Saturday, Sept. 15.
The film, shot in and around
Piggott, starred Andy Griffith and Patricia Neal. The film
also involved
several individuals who are now on faculty or staff at ASU, in
addition to many ASU alumni. Distinguished actress Patricia Neal will be
the honored guest,
along with noted film critic Dr. Foster Hirsch, author of 16 books
about the movies.
The
event includes a showing of the movie, a banquet with Neal,
and a presentation by Hirsch.
Members of the ASU Alumni Association
enjoyed reading participants' memories in an article by Dr. Nancy
Hendricks, Alumni Relations, in the fall 2006 issue of Voices magazine. For

Clinton diarist to teach
memoir writing course at ASU
Janis F. Kearney, personal
diarist to President Bill Clinton and author of the acclaimed Cotton
Field of Dreams: A Memoir, will be on campus during the 2007-2008
academic year. She will be teaching two special courses, Inside the
Clinton Presidency (Political Science 4003-003, 64821) and Memoir
Writing: Using memory and stories to write our world (English
4436-002, 64965). This Honors class is an introduction to memoir
writing and will include basic writing skills and the composition of
personal memoirs. The class will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from
12:30 p.m.-1:45 p.m. Space is limited; interested individuals should enroll
