Blazing
Science to appear on campus this weekend
Entertainer Mik Jacobs will bring his award-winning show Blazing Science
to the ASU Museum this Friday through Sunday, July 15-17. Show times are 10 a.m.
and 1 and 3 p.m. on Friday, 1, 2, and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The three-day event will entertain audiences of all ages with live
demonstrations of fire and energy and is coordinated by the Arkansas Children’s
Discovery Center Network, which includes six museums across the state. For more,

Deb Turner appointed to ABA committee
Dr. Deborah
Parker Turner, University Advancement, has been appointed to the Mock Trial
Committee of the Arkansas Bar Association (ABA) by President A. Glenn Vasser of
Prescott. The appointment was effective at the ABA 2005 annual meeting in June.
Turner is director of planned giving for ASU.
Retirement Reception for Irene Martz
Irene
Martz, Academic Affairs,
will be retiring this month after 48 years of
dedicated service to ASU. A dessert reception will be held in her honor at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, in the
Grand Hall of Fowler Center . All faculty and staff are invited.
Comments will begin at 3:15 p.m.
AccessPoint 'test drive' for faculty and
staff
Faculty and staff have probably heard about the AccessPoint portal system coming
to the ASU computing environment. AccessPoint provides the potential for
more effective communication across campus. To help familiarize everyone
with AccessPoint's capabilities and advantages, Information and Technology
Services has organized a series of "technology test drives" during the week of
Aug. 1-5. AccessPoint
can be customized to the user's specific needs and interests. It will
facilitate communications among groups (such as a department) or committee.

Delta Bridge program offering special camp
The Delta Bridge Program, administered
through the Department of Teacher Education, will conduct a "Literacy and
Technology Camp" beginning Sunday, July 17. The two week residential camp
is for students entering grades 7-9.
Alumni to host celebrations in Stuttgart & Little Rock
The
Grand Prairie Summer Celebration will be at the First National Bank Building
in Stuttgart on Thursday, July 14, at 6:30 p.m. with a barbecue style dinner
provided by Craig's BBQ. Special guests will be Attorney General Mike Beebe,
'68, and Lady Indian Coach Brian Boyer. Incoming freshmen from the Grand
Prairie area will be recognized and receive a free T-shirt.
The
Central Arkansas Summer Celebration will be Tuesday, July 19, in Little Rock
in the backyard of Dr. Tim and Terri Langford, '84, at 6:30 p.m.
Dress is very casual and dinner
will be provided by Corky's. Special guests will be Dr. Les Wyatt and head
football Coach Steve Roberts. Incoming
freshmen (entering ASU this fall) will be recognized and receive a free T-shirt.
Young Alumni Bash in Jonesboro,
August 18
For recent graduates who want
to celebrate the start of school without the hassles of registration, buying
books, getting a parking space and finding classes, the Young
Alumni Not-Going-Back-to-School Bash will be Thursday, Aug. 18, in the
basement of the Triple FM radio station from 5-7 p.m. (in downtown Jonesboro).
See familiar faces, make new friends, do some networking, socialize and enjoy
food from Main Street Pizza - it's $5 for Alumni Association members and $10 for

ASU Pottery Club Summer Sale begins
Thursday
The ASU Pottery Club
will host its annual summer sale Thursday through Saturday
at The Edge Coffee House, 1900 Aggie Rd. Hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on
Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday.
New Student Orientation on campus tomorrow
Tomorrow is
the sixth New Student Orientation (NSO) session on campus this summer. The NSO
sessions seem to be going very well and represent a change from last year's
two-day sessions. Registration begins between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. in the Student
Union. Activities and events are scheduled throughout the day
to introduce both parents and students with campus life and to ASU. NSO
concludes between 3 and 5 p.m. Three more sessions will be offered: Tuesday,
July 26; Tuesday, Aug. 2; and Friday, Aug. 19. For more details,
