ASU hosts national environmental summit
Arkansas State University will host the 2008 National Environmental Studies and Sciences Summit today and tomorrow in the Student Union. This summit will gather more than 70 academics and professionals from dozens of universities and colleges around the world. Attendees of the summit will be discussing numerous issues concerning teaching and research in different areas of environmental studies and sciences. Dr. Robert L. Potts, chancellor, ASU-Jonesboro, will deliver the summit's opening remarks.
The summit is sponsored by the U.S. Council of Environmental Deans and Directors (CEDD), the National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE), and several academic units at ASU, including the Environmental Sciences Graduate Program, the Department of Biological Sciences, the Department of Chemistry and Physics, and the Office of Academic Affairs and Research. Twin Towers implosion scheduled for May 25
Twin Towers, the venerable residence hall, will be demolished by controlled implosion on Sunday, May 25, with the countdown beginning at 5 a.m. See an overview of the residence hall's history and interesting facts about it. Doug Loizeaux from Controlled Demolition, Inc., of Phoenix, Maryland, is sub-contractor for the implosion, and Ricky Chandler from Chandler Demolition of Memphis has done preparatory work and will oversee debris removal. Terry Carty, ASU Facilities Management, and D. A. Davis, Environmental Health and Safety, and members of their staffs will be on hand during the demolition, as well as representatives of the University Police Department, Jonesboro Police Department, Jonesboro Fire Department and other emergency services.

Parking Services renewal contracts deadline looms
Parking Services is now accepting renewal contracts for the Central A Contract Lot for the 2008-09 year. Renewal contracts must be received by Wednesday, May 30, at 5 p.m. There is no change in the cost of contract parking for 2008-09. The cost is still $200.00.  Advance payment is not required. Customer accounts will be billed for the contract parking fees after July 1, 2008. Employees may either make payment to their accounts or establish a payroll deduction agreement with Human Resources. Please note that there is no need to renew parking permits at this time. Current parking permits are valid through August 31, 2008.  The new 2008-09 parking permits will be available after July 7, 2008. The renewal of parking permits is a separate transaction from contract parking renewal.

Delta Center for Economic Development breaks ground

The Delta Center for Economic Development will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new building, which will house outreach activities for the College of Business. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 27, at 6 p.m. Parking for the ceremony will be directly behind the College of Business building. The new building will help the College of Business, the Delta Center for Economic Development, and the Small Business Development Center coordinate the economic development outreach services of the university.
