ASU receives grant of
$1,750,500
ASU received a shot in the arm Friday, April 17, when U.S.
Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke made a trip to Arkansas to announce
that a grant for $1,750,500 had been awarded to ASU’s Arkansas
Biosciences Institute (ABI). The grant, provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic
Development Administration, was presented to ASU Chancellor Robert L.
Potts and executive director of ABI, Dr. Carole Cramer, whose vision
for ABI included this business incubator facility. The EDA grant goes
toward completion of the Arkansas State Biosciences Institute Commercial
Innovation Center (ABI-COM) business incubator and is part of the grant
funding to assist the economic recovery effort in Arkansas following
severe storms, flooding and tornados that occurred in 2008, for regional

Board of Trustees meeting
today in Little Rock
The Board of Trustees of Arkansas
State University will meet on Friday, April 24, at 2 p.m. at the ASU
Little Rock Office, 2222 Cottondale Lane, Suite 230. The single item
on the agenda is consideration of a proposed ASU System Identity
Theft Prevention Policy. The agenda is posted at

Dr. Hunt invited to serve on international
journal board
Dr. Shane Hunt, Marketing, recently was invited to serve
on the review board of the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales
Management. Dr. Hunt will assist the editor in reviewing
and selecting the abstracts that will be published in the journal.
The Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management is the premier
international journal devoted to the field of selling and sales
management.
Bluegrass Monday features Tennessee
Gentlemen
The Tennessee Gentlemen will perform a
concert of bluegrass music on Monday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at Atkins
Celebration Hall, 101 South Pruett Street, in downtown Paragould. The
performance is part of the Bluegrass Monday concert series presented by
KASU 91.9 FM. KASU will literally "pass the hat" to collect money to pay
the group. The suggested donation is $5 per person.
Based in Memphis, the Tennessee Gentlemen have been entertaining
audiences at bluegrass festivals across the United States and Canada for
over 30 years. The band is well-known for their high vocal sound,
featuring outstanding harmonies. The group has recorded numerous CDs and
has produced a concert DVD. They play traditional bluegrass music,
gospel songs, and bluegrass arrangements of songs from other styles of
music.

Distinguished Alumni award
nominations due May 1
Nominations will be accepted through Friday, May 1 for the
ASU Alumni Association's annual Distinguished Alumni awards. Now in its
26th year, the awards honor A-State alumni who have excelled
professionally, in their communities, and through service to ASU.
Recipients are selected from nominations submitted by alumni, friends of
the university, and the general public. Since 1984, the Alumni Association’s board of directors
annually selects award recipients from nominations submitted by alumni,
friends of the university, and the general public. Selection of nominees
is based on community service, professional achievement, and service to
