Higher Learning Commission team visit is success
After the March 3-5 campus visit, the accreditation evaluation team from The Higher Learning Commission praised ASU faculty and staff for an outstanding self-study report and well-organized campus visit.  While we still have work to do and improvements to make, the team will recommend continued accreditation for the longest possible term, 10 years.  A special edition of Inside ASU, distributed on campus Thursday, provided a summary of the team's exit interview.  The HLC will conduct a focus visit in 2006-07 to monitor progress on cited weaknesses, while the institution will be asked in the final report to give special attention to other concerns.

Disability Awareness Week activities underway
Several Disability Awareness Week activities are scheduled this week.  Highlights include sessions on deaf education, Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., and learning disabilities, ADD and TBI, Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.;
a student forum, Wednesday at 1 p.m.; and a symposium, conducted by the Department of Psychology and Counseling, Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.  All events are in the Reng Center.  Those who advise students or sponsor organizations are encouraged to announce the symposium to their students and invite them to attend as many activities as possible.   For more details, contact Disability Services at  972-3964.

Faculty and staff portraits: March 12-13
If you did not get a new portrait made for the Indian yearbook last fall, you are one of many.  Please stop by Room 218-B in the Communications Building (second floor, south wing) on Wednesday or Thursday, March 12-13, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.  John Kennett with Child Art Studio will be set up to make a digital photo.  If time permits, he will even let you select your best pose.  These photos will be used in the next yearbook (2004 edition; 2003 pages have gone to press) and will be on file in University Communications and Public Relations for use with news releases, scholarly publications, etc.  Take advantage of this opportunity!

Several new professional achievements listed
Several faculty and staff members have been recognized by their peers in various ways recently. Read the details in Campus News.

Grant to Hemingway-Pfeiffer Center at Piggott
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center at Piggott, a program of Arkansas State University, has begun publishing a newsletter, "Friends of the Pfeiffers."  The first edition includes an article about the center's recent grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).  The grant will be used to participate in the Museum Assessment Program administered by the American Association of Museums.  The center, which is directed by Dr. Ruth Hawkins, is working toward national accreditation from the American Association of Museums. Mark your calendar . . . Homecoming
If you haven't already heard, ASU's fall Homecoming game will be Saturday, Sept. 13.  We wanted everyone who plans Homecoming-related activities to have the date for planning purposes.  The Indians will host Southeast Missouri State University.  The game time will be announced later.
