2008 Agribusiness Conference slated
for Feb. 13
ASU's College of Agriculture
will host the
14th annual Agribusiness Conference on Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the
Fowler Center and Convocation Center. On-site registration begins at
8 a.m. at Fowler Center. Admission is free, but luncheon reservations are limited to the first
500. The luncheon address will feature Mark Drabenstott, director of the
Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) Center for Regional
Competitiveness in Columbia, Mo., on "How Rural Economies
Can Compete in the Global Economy." The afternoon program features five special interest sessions,
including speakers Dr. Gauri Guha, Economics, and Dr. Kim

Spring semester
enrollment is up significantly
As of late Tuesday, the 11th
day of classes, the preliminary and unofficial spring semester
enrollment stood at 10,369. This number, which exceeds last year's
total by more than 360, represents the "unduplicated headcount" at
all instructional sites associated with the Jonesboro campus.

Lecture-Concert Series presents
Anders Miolin
Anders
Miolin, legendary 13-string guitar virtuoso, will be the featured
performer in the 10th event of ASU's Lecture-Concert Series.
Miolin's concert "A Fantastic Journey," is Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 7
p.m. in the Student Union Auditorium. Miolin's concert is
co-sponsored by the ASU Guitar Guild and is free and open to the
public. The Swedish-born Miolin performs music from the Renaissance
to the contemporary era. For details, contact

Dr. Howard to inaugurate
Hall of Science exhibition
Dr. Dan Howard, ASU's new vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and
Research, will officially dedicate a new science exhibit in the
Laboratory Sciences Center, East Wing, at ASU on Monday, Feb. 11, at
12 noon. The opening of "The Hall of Science" is the official
start of the "Week
of Science" festivities planned
through Friday, Feb. 15. Refreshments will be served, and the public
is welcome. "The Hall of Science" will encompass features like
marine skeletons, a marine aquarium, a vivarium, a meteorological
station, a mineral collection, and much more, including exhibits
demonstrating ongoing research being conducted at ASU. For details,

Middle East Studies Night to
be held Monday, Feb. 11
ASU's Middle East Studies
Committee will present its annual Middle East Studies Night on
Monday, Feb. 11, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall, Fowler
Center. The evening will begin with a buffet of Middle Eastern
cuisine. A short program will follow, given by last year's Middle
East Studies Committee study and research grant recipients. The
evening will culminate in the announcement of grant recipients for
2008. The event is free and open to the public. For details, contact

Wilson/Distinguished
Service Awards nominations due
Nominations are now being accepted for the
2008
R. E. Lee Wilson Citizenship Award and the Distinguished Service
Awards. The deadline for application is Friday, Feb. 22. Incomplete
or late nomination/applications will not be considered. Forms are
available
online and by request in all deans' offices, the offices of
Student Affairs (Administration, Room 228), University Advancement
(Administration, Room 104), and the Tribal Leadership Center in the
Student Union. Packets should be submitted to University
