Today's edition of First Friday includes task force updates
Today's edition of First Friday, a monthly report from ASU Chancellor Dr. Robert L. Potts, will include updates on the findings of two task forces appointed this fall. Reports from t
he Instructional Technology-Distance Learning-Online Educational Task Force, chaired by Mitch Holifield, and the task force on Background Checks for New Hires, chaired by Louella Moore, will be summarized. Two other task forces appointed by Potts are the Summer Programs and Enrollment Revenue Task Force, chaired by Len Frey, and the University Web Design Task Force, chaired by Mark Hoeting. Chancellor Potts remains pleased with the task forces' good work and is deeply appreciative of all those who volunteered to serve.

Mascot Committee meeting scheduled for today
ASU's Mascot Steering Committee will meet today at 10:30 a.m. in the Chickasaw Room of ASU's Student Union. Jamie Skiles, principal and creative director of Phoenix Design Works, will attend the meeting.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration scheduled
Plans for ASU's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, "Are You Living the Dream?" are underway. While the celebration takes place Monday-Wednesday, Jan. 21-23, nominations are now being accepted for two MLK Image Awards, one for a faculty member and the other for a student. The Office of Multicultural Affairs, hosts of the MLK celebration, will also award a one-time $250 book scholarship during the celebration's culmination in a leadership banquet. For nomination and scholarship application forms, contact Jerrod O. Lockhart, ext. 2055. Nominations close at 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17.

Convocation Center offers several events in the new year
ASU's Convocation Center kicks off 2008 with concerts. The Temptations will appear Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m. The Del McCoury Band takes the stage on Friday, Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m., and country superstar Reba McEntire appears with former "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson in the "2 Worlds, 2 Voices Tour 2008" on Friday, Feb. 15.
