Weather-related closing announcements
Occasionally, severe weather will dictate that the university be closed.  Naturally, everyone wants to know about a closing as soon as possible.  Once the decision to close is made, the University Communications office is responsible for notifying news media.  We make the first call to KASU, 91.9 FM, and the second to an ITS staffer who puts a notice on the ASU home page. Next, we call the local TV station and commercial radio stations, then as many area stations as possible.  ASU personnel who provide essential services should still report, as directed by their supervisor.  See the faculty or staff handbook to review the university's inclement weather policies.

Last edition of 'Inside ASU' this semester
With this being the last full week of the semester, we most likely will not publish "Inside ASU" on Dec. 9.  We plan to resume on Monday, Jan. 6.  As stated before, let us know your feedback about "Inside ASU" . . . your likes or dislikes, or suggestions for additional topics.  Notify Tom Moore, tmoore@astate.edu.

'
Santa's Workshop' will be Thursday, Dec. 12
Reminder . . . everyone is invited to "Santa's Workshop" in the Administration Building lobby on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2-4 p.m.  Bring your little ones to meet Santa Claus, taste some homemade goodies, enjoy the entertainment, and visit with your ASU Family.  A box for donations to the needy will be available.  And, if you would like to honor a family member, friend, or coworker, you may purchase a paper toy for $1 and place their name on it, for display in the lobby.  The money collected will be donated to Santa's Tribe.  Tribe members are helping those with special needs. Read the details, repeated from e-mail.

Football players collecting toys for needy
Members of ASU's football team will be on hand tonight (Dec. 2) at ASU's basketball game with Samford to collect toys for needy children as part of the Jonesboro Jaycees' Christmas for Kids program.  Everyone who brings a toy to the Convocation Center will receive a special $5 ticket for the game. Indian players will be at each of the building's four entrances to collect the toys. The players will also be involved with toy distribution prior to the holidays.  The event is part of ASU's football program efforts to give back to the community and impact the youth of Jonesboro.  The game starts at 7:05 p.m.

New Student Orientation is Wednesday
Wednesday, Dec. 4, is New Student Orientation for Spring 2003. Students will be dropped off at their academic department for advising at 11:30 AM. The next NSO is scheduled for Jan. 7.

Information about Health Center services, procedures
Repeated from last week: With the new health center construction well underway, there are many questions about how the new facility's services might benefit faculty and staff.  Dr. J. W. Mason, Office of Human Resources, has agreed to provide answers in a future edition.  You may direct questions to asunews@astate.edu or to jmason@astate.edu or by campus mail to Admin Building, Room 102.
