Young scientists to compete at
NE Arkansas Regional Science Fair

March 1, 2005 -- The Northeast Arkansas Regional Science Fair (NEARSF) will be held on March 4-5, at the Convocation Center (lower red entrance - Hames Meeting Rooms: Rooms  A, B, and C) located on the campus of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. 

Individual students and teams (Grades 7-12) will receive recognition for outstanding science fair projects in various categories of science, math, and engineering.  The two top winners of the entire science fair and their sponsoring teachers will be eligible to compete at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2005 (Intel ISEF) to be held on May 8-14, 2005 in Phoenix, Arizona.  Travel, housing, and registration expenses for the two students and their sponsoring teachers attending the Intel ISEF will be paid for by the NEARSF which is supported by the NE Arkansas Science Teachers' Association, Arkansas State University (College of Sciences and Mathematics), and private monetary donations provided by businesses, charitable organizations, and members of the northeast Arkansas community.
 
Students will set up their science fair projects on Friday, March 4th, during the morning (Exhibit Setup - 8:45 am to 11:00 am on Friday).  From 9:00 am to 11:00 am students will have the opportunity to engage in fun "science-centered" activities in the Auditorium (located near the lower red entrance of the Convocation Center).  The schedule for some of these fun "science-centered" activities follows:

Tables will be available in the Hames Meeting Rooms exhibiting information regarding various academic programs available at Arkansas State University.  Representatives from various departments and programs will be available in the morning and/or in the evening for students, parents, and others to gather information. 

Science fair exhibits will be closed to the public Friday afternoon from 12:00 pm to 5:30 pm while judging takes place.  Fair exhibits will be open to the public and the students from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday.  An awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 5th at 2:00 pm with Dr. Carole Cramer, officiating in the presentation of awards, as well, as other presenters.  The award’s ceremony will take place in the auditorium located just inside the lower red entrance of the Convocation Center.
