College of Sciences and Mathematics presents awards to top graduates

April 25, 2006 -- The College of Sciences and Mathematics at Arkansas State University named 12 outstanding graduates as recipients of departmental awards for 2005-06 during the college’s annual honors banquet, according to Dr. Jerry Farris, associate dean of the college.

The departmental awards are presented during Convocation of Scholars each year to the graduate in each degree program who has excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to the department.

Those receiving awards and their respective degree programs were:

Bryanna Joy Broadaway of Jonesboro, BS, chemistry; Ray Bob Harrison of Jonesboro, BA, chemistry; Carolyn Redman of Beebe, BSE, chemistry; Bret Allen Yount of Piggott, BS, physics; and Melissa D. McLane of Lawrenceville, Ga., BS, pre-professional studies.

Also receiving awards were Gregory Aaron Wilkin of Paragould and Cody Ashby of Paragould, BS, computer science (tie); Gretchen Rorie Harwood of Wadesboro, N.C., BA, computer science; Tara L. Walker of Ravenden, BSE, mathematics education; Peter C. Townsend of Sherwood, BS, mathematics.

Graduate student awards were presented to two candidates for the master's degree. The students and their respective programs were: Anton D. Gerbracht of Portland, Ore., computer science; and Kurt A. Lovelady of Dexter, Mo., mathematics.
