Northeast Arkansas Regional Science
Fair March 7-8, at Arkansas State University
March 3, 2008 --
The Northeast Arkansas Regional Science Fair (NEARSF) will be held on
Friday-Saturday, March 7-8, in Centennial Hall of the Student Union on the campus of
Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. UPDATE:
Due to inclement weather, the awards ceremony has been cancelled.
Judging was completed, and winners will receive their certificates by
mail. Students should pick up their exhibits either Saturday or by 3
p.m. Sunday.
Individual students and teams (Grades 7-12) will receive recognition for
outstanding science fair projects in various categories of science,
math, and engineering.
The two top winners of the entire science fair and their sponsoring
teachers will be eligible to compete at the Intel International Science
and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Atlanta, May 11-17.
Travel, housing, and registration expenses for the two students and
their sponsoring teachers attending the Intel ISEF will be paid for by
the NEARSF, which is supported by the NE Arkansas Science Teachers'
Association, Arkansas State University (College of Sciences and
Mathematics), and private monetary donations provided by businesses,
charitable organizations, and members of the northeast Arkansas
community.
Students will set up their science fair projects on Friday, March 7,
during the morning.
Information regarding various academic programs at Arkansas State
University will be available in Centennial Hall. Representatives from
various departments and programs will be available Friday for students,
parents, and others to gather information.
Science fair exhibits will be closed to the public Friday afternoon from
12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. while judging takes place. Fair exhibits will be
open to the public and the students from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.
An awards ceremony will take place in the Student
Union Auditorium on Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Lynita Cooksey, associate
vice chancellor for academic services, officiating in the presentation
of awards.
