Barry Melancon, head of CPA group, Barry Melancon, president and chief executive officer of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), will speak on the collapse of Enron Friday, March 22, at a breakfast for Certified Public Accountants. The event is being co-sponsored by the Arkansas State University College of Business and the Northeast Chapter of the Arkansas Society of CPAs. Melancon, who has more than 20 years of experience in the accounting profession, was elected to his current position in July 1995. As the top executive of the most prestigious professional membership organization for CPAs in the United States, he directs the Institute’s operations in New York, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. In addition to serving as president and CEO of the AICPA, Melancon is a member of the AICPA’s delegation to the International Federation of Accountants. He also is a member of the Independent Standards Board, a private-sector body that establishes independence standards for auditors of public companies. According to Dr. C. William Roe, associate dean and director of graduate business programs at ASU, and Brent Cassady, local CPA and president of the Northeast Chapter of the Arkansas Society of CPAs, this is the first time a local chapter has hosted the president of the 329,000-member AICPA. The breakfast session will begin at 7 a.m. followed by a two-hour CPE session from 8 a.m.-10 am. at The Colonnade in Jonesboro.
