College of Humanities and Social Sciences presents awards to top graduates

April 24, 2006 --The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Arkansas State University has named 15 outstanding students as recipients of departmental awards for 2005-06 during the college’s annual honors banquet, according to Dr. Gloria Gibson, dean of the college.

The departmental awards are presented each year during Convocation of Scholars to the graduating student in each degree program who has excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to the department.

Those receiving awards and their respective degree programs were: Christopher Seefeld of Walnut Ridge, BSE, social science; Rebecca Phillips of Cherokee Village, BA, political science; Nathan Roop of Berryville, BA, criminology; and Heather Wallace of Piggott, BA, sociology.

Others were Dustin Collier of Sherwood, BA, philosophy; Jennifer Haney of Cabot, BA, English; Ashley Bowdler of Blytheville, BSE, English education; Larry L. Smith of Menifee, BA, Spanish; Timothy L. Brents of Paragould, BSE, Spanish education; and Jordan Fike of Cheyenne, Wy., BA, history.

Graduate awards were presented to Patricia McGovern of Jonesboro, Galloway Award (MA, history); Brent M. Tippin of Cardwell, Mo., MA, political science; Adam L. Whitney of Lake City, MA, sociology; Matt Huckaby of Jonesboro, MPA, public administration; and Sara Marzewski of Jonesboro, outstanding German student.
