ASU Employees recognized for
long service and excellent performance


Arkansas State University conducted its ninth annual service recognition and performance awards program today (Wednesday, May 8), for classified and non-classified personnel.

This program was initiated in 1994 to recognize outstanding service and performance by the university’s non-teaching employees, according to Dr. Les Wyatt, president of the university.

Ten employees received Distinguished Performance Awards in their respective employment categories. Two awards were presented in two categories.

The employees, their departments, and their employment categories were:

-- Pat Glascock, Counseling Center (executive/administrative)
-- Laura Cremeens, College of Communications (secretarial/clerical)
-- Mike Ring, Facilities Management (secretarial/clerical)
-- Tami Murray, Human Resource (technical, para-professional)
-- Dorothy Brown, Reng Center (service maintenance)
-- Calvin R. Smith, Convocation Center (skilled crafts)
-- Phareta Calkin, Print Shop (skilled crafts)
-- Robin Hicks, Finance and Administration (professional non-faculty)
-- Maria Pipkin, Human Resources (part-time employee)
-- Lanafae Stephens, Library (customer service)

Winners of the Distinguished Service Awards received a plaque and a $500 savings bond. The winner in the part-time employee category received a $100 savings bond.

Four university employees were recognized with an engraved plaque for their long-time service to ASU as of June 30. Glenda Brooks, Procurement Services; Kenneth Cooper, University Police; Jo Ann Nalley, Childhood Services; and Dr. Herman Strickland, University College, were each recognized for 30 years of service.

Thirteen employees were recognized for 20 years of service. The employees and their departments were: Greg Chance, Radio/TV; Martha Flugstad, Information and Technology Services; Janet Hardin, Human Resources; Michael Johnson, Farms; Robin Kaloghirou, Financial Aid; Zach Lawhon, Facilities Management; Paula Lynn, Admissions; Suzanne Marlay, International Student Services; Doug Mathis, Facilities Management; J. D. Melton, Facilities Management; Joseph Rolfe, Facilities Management; Janice Smith, Registrar; and Charlie Watson, Facilities Management.

Seven employees who have retired or will retire during this fiscal year were also recognized. They include Larry Bishop, Facilities Management; Joseph Marion Burkhammer, Facilities Management; N. Paulette Dallas, Honors Program; Rosetta Dean, Facilities Management; Ruth Hampton, Arts and Sciences; Zach Lawhon, Facilities Management; and Pat Spurlock, Library.

An additional 25 employees were recognized for 10 years of service.
