Realtor Harold E. Crye to speak
at spring commencement ceremony


Harold E. Crye, chief executive officer of Crye-Leike Realtors, will be the guest speaker for Crye_Harold01.jpg (17018 bytes)Arkansas State University’s spring commencement ceremony on Friday, May 11. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.

Crye is a 1967 alumnus of the College of Business. Crye-Leike is the largest real estate company in Tennessee and the Mid-South, and ranks 10th nationally.

Approximately 900 students are candidates for degrees at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Dr. Les Wyatt, president of ASU, will present the various diplomas.

Following the ceremony, a reception for all graduates and their guests, faculty and staff will be held on the north mezzanine, between the blue and green entrances to the building.

Crye-Leike is a full service real estate company, offering real estate and related services including mortgage lending, an insurance division, a commercial property division, a title company, and several other divisions.

After completing his degree in business administration at ASU, Crye served as an Army officer then worked in corporate management. He entered the real estate industry in 1973 as sales manager for a firm in Memphis.

Three years later, Crye and his partner, Dick Leike, established their own company in Memphis. Within three years it was the largest real estate firm in the city. In 1992 they expanded operations into the Middle Tennessee real estate market, becoming the largest firm in Nashville within a year.

Today, Crye-Leike is ranked No. 10 nationally among the nation’s top 500 residential real estate brokerage firms. As a privately held company, Crye-Leike has a network of more than 52 branch offices, 2,100 sales associates and 480 employees in four states, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia.

Crye also serves as president of Crye-Leike Insurance Agency and a member of the board of directors of Homestore.com, Inc., the leading supplier of online media and technology solutions to the home and real estate industries.

He is on the board of directors for the Memphis Better Business Bureau, First Trust Bank for Savings, Realty Title and RELO International. He was president of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors in 1991 and was selected by the association as Realtor of the Year in 1992. He holds the professional designations of certified residential specialist (CRS) and certified real estate brokerage manager (CRB).

The ASU College of Business recognized his achievements in 1986, presenting him with its Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Crye has served his community as charter president of the Germantown Jaycees and Germantown Exchange Club as well as president of the Chickasaw Council Boy Scouts of America in 1991. Crye is also a VIP of the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
