Department of Music to present Concert Choir and Chamber Singers Fall Concert

Sept. 30, 2005 -- The Department of Music at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will present the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers Monday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall of Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive.

The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers are under the direction of Dr. Dale Miller, director of choral activities. Musical selections for the Concert Choir include “The Star Spangled Banner” arranged by Lloyd Pfautsch; “ To Everything There Is a Season” by Rene Clausen, accompanied by Dr. Dan Ross, professor of oboe; “Lux Aurumque” by Eric Whitacre; “Kyrie” and “Dies Irae” from Mozart’s “Requiem;” “Sure on this Shining Night” by Morten Lauridsen, led by Carolyn Smith, graduate conducting assistant; “Amazing Grace,” arranged by Robert Shaw with solo performances from Willie Sullivan and Perry Harper; “Deep River” and “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel,” both arranged by Moses Hogan. 

The Chamber Singers will be performing “All Creatures Now Are Merry Minded” by John Bennett, “While the Bright Sun” by William Byrd, “Ecco Mormor L’onde” by Claudio Monteverdi, and “Bonzorno Madonna” by Antonio Scandello. The women of the Chamber Singers will sing “Mon Coeur Se Recommande a Vous,” a French chanson by Orlando di Lasso, and the men will sing “A Round of Three Country Dances in One” by Thomas Ravenscroft. Each group will be accompanied on piano and organ by Ellen Philpot, adjunct instructor of music.  


Personnel for the Concert Choir include Cassie Black of Searcy, Kristi Freeman of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Karen Graham of Conway, Angela Jackson of Naylor, Mo., Pat Register of Huntsville, Ala., Elizabeth Renshaw of Jonesboro, Krystal Story of Camden, Jamie Thompson of Rison, Mandy Walker of White Hall, first sopranos; Mollie Black of Benton, Heather Chance of Harrisburg, Lindsey Lee of Jonesboro, Jennifer Meek of Batesville, Priscilla Noyes of Dexter, Mo., Renee Porter of Kingwood, Texas, Elizabeth Schug of Paragould, Crystal Stormes of Goobertown, Casey Wilburn of Lexa, Katie Willeford of El Dorado, second sopranos; April Brannum of Marmaduke, Meagan Duncan of Searcy, Lisa Gray of Brookland, Tiffanie Holland of Bryant, Brittany Howard of Paragould, Mary Hannah Johnson and Rachel Warnick, both of Jonesboro, first altos; Erica Carter of Marion, Christy Fudge of Newark, Shaquenta Millen of Wynne, Kate Puckett of Wilson, Carol Ann Segraves of Jonesboro, Carolyn Smith of Huntsville, Ala., second altos. 

Other members include: Maurice Butler of Wynne, Josh Dennis of Springfield, Mo., Drew Dowdy of Paragould, Derrick Moore of Forrest City, Galen Perkins of Bartlett, Tenn., Rusty Shields of Osceola, Willie Sullivan of Jonesboro, first tenors; Tim Long, Craig McAlister, Matt Vardell, and Charles Winfield, all of Jonesboro, Christopher Mitchell of Trumann, Justin Register of Huntsville, Ala., second tenors.

Other members of the Concert Choir are John Easley of Bald Knob, Greg Everhard of Harrisburg, Andrew Kjorlaug and Jonathan Schug, both of Paragould, Patrick Manes of Bryant, Skyler Mays of Highland, Nick Robbins of Manila, Jon Stevenson of North Little Rock, Keith Westbrook of Benton, baritones; Michael Crutchfield and Perry Harper, both of Paragould, Michael Davis, Jason Mendell and John T. Hays, all of Jonesboro, Edmond Hampton of Fort Smith, Eric Rivera of Hoxie, and Josh Wilcoxson of Kennett, Mo., basses.

This concert is free and open to the public. However, donations and orders for Boston Butts will be taken in an effort to defray student expenses for the Concert Choir’s Eastern Europe concert tour planned for spring break. The butts will be sold for $25 each and will be ready for delivery the week of November 14.
