19, 2001 Communiversity Series will host ‘Tin Roof Tango’ at Fowler Center Downloadable Images The Communiversity Series at Arkansas State University will host the musical group "Tin Roof Tango" on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Fowler Center. The series is free and open to the public. The music is presented through creative arrangements with more than 25 acoustical instruments. The group began playing in 1987 as a Celtic music group, and is based in the Dallas area. The classically trained musicians have performed in concert halls, on college campuses and at festivals. "Down-home meets downtown when this high-energy ensemble performs distinctive renditions of traditional old time American, Celtic, bluegrass, ragtime, salsa, cajun and zydeco music," according to a Communiversity representative. In April 2000, the ensemble released its self-titled compact disc "Tin Roof Tango." The CD features more than 30 different acoustic instruments playing repertoire from Tin Roof Tango’s Big Acoustic World Show. Mark Shelton, founder and leader of the group, performs on hammered dulcimer and percussion; Barbara Stafford, violin; Mark Gowan, guitar and accordion and banjo; Jonathan Fisher, string bass and mandolin; and Beth Shelton, woodwinds, mountain dulcimer and accordion.
