36th annual Early Childhood
Education Conference

July 10, 2006 - Arkansas State University Childhood Services is hosting their 36th annual Early Childhood Education Conference Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 7-9, in the Convocation Center and the Fowler Center at ASU. The conference will focus on recognizing and creating opportunities for learning in all areas.

Anyone or group who wants to improve the quality of the services they offer children and families are encouraged to attend. These might include infant, toddler, preschool or school-age child care staff or administrators, ABC staff, Head Start staff, public schools early childhood program staff, family child care providers, and special needs early childhood program staff.

The conference includes three featured speakers: Jim Greenman, Nancy P. Alexander, and Stephen Fite.

Greenman is a senior vice president for education and program development at Bright Horizons Family Solutions, the nation’s leading provider of employer-sponsored early care and education centers. He has extensive experience with all forms of child care and developed major quality improvement projects in Minnesota. Greenman has also written numerous articles for magazines and journals, and is an author of many books.

Alexander is a former executive director of Northwestern State University Child and Family Network and president of the North Louisiana Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). She is the winner of the Professional Trainer of the Year Award from the North Louisiana Chapter of ASTD. She is also the author of the comprehensive trainer’s guide, “Early Childhood Workshops That Work!”

Fite is an award winning musician/writer whose albums have received 10 nationally recognized honors. Fite has performed concerts for over 350,000 children, as well as, keynotes and workshops for educators nationwide. Using his homemade “Big Books, Children’s Literature and Props,” Fite will bring teachers a renewed enthusiasm for using music to span their curriculum.

The conference is sponsored by The Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services, a Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education. The registration fee for all three days of the conference is $125. This fee will not cover meals and lodging.
