Faculty and Staff achievements
Congratulations to these faculty and staff members who have distinguished themselves and their departments recently for outstanding professional achievements:

*Dr. Jerry Farris, Environmental Sciences, made a presentation Aug. 24 to the state Conference on Waterborne Transportation in Little Rock. He discussed how navigation affects the environment. 

* Dr. Warren Johnson, Languages, recently received a fellowship from the French government to attend a seminar in Strasbourg, France, on teaching business French. He also had an article published in the 2000 issue of the annual "Cincinnati Romance Review," and presented two papers at the Cincinnati Romance Languages conference in May. 

* Dr. Bao-An Li, Physics, made seven international and national presentations between May 17 and July 7. He reported results of research performed at ASU in collaboration with Dr. A.T. Sustich and Dr. Bin Zhang, Physics, and undergraduate students Matt Tilley and Amanda Evans. Li's travels led him to Texas, Italy, France and New Hampshire. Financial support for the presentations was provided in part by the Department of Chemistry and Physics. 

* Dr. Ruth Supko, Languages, recently attended the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) Conference in Puerto Rico. Supko was the recipient of the Eleanor Lane International Travel Award and used the funds to conduct research on the live ammunition military exercised conducted by the U.S. Navy on the small Puerto Rican island of Vieques.

* Herb Lawrence, Small Business Development Center, was recently named the 2000 Resource Partner Of The Year by the Small Business Administration. Gov. Mike Huckabee recently presented the award at the annual ceremony in Little Rock.  Lawrence was recognized for the assistance he gave to clients in obtaining $8.8 million in SBA loans and conducting 30 training seminars in 1999.
