Arts Center Gallery to present
exhibit on ceramics and sculpture
Aug.
25, 2006 -- The Fine Arts Center Gallery at Arkansas State University in
Jonesboro will present “Picket Fence Borders” an exhibition of ceramic
and mixed media sculpture by Memphis artist Nancy White, opening on
Monday, Aug. 28. A reception for Picket Fence Borders will be held that
evening at 5 p.m.
White received a bachelor of arts degree from Florida Atlantic
University and a master’s of fine arts in ceramics from Alfred
University. She is an associate professor at the University of Memphis,
where she has taught ceramics and courses in other three dimensional
media for many years.
Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout the
United States, including recent exhibitions at the Jewish Community
Center Shainberg Gallery and Second Floor Contemporary in Memphis.
White’s work has also been included in several exhibitions at Sarah
Howell Gallery in downtown Jonesboro in recent years.
According to the artist, Picket Fence Borders “is an ongoing collection
of reactions to or attempted escapes from news. We all have our special
place to go for this like the garden or behind a picket fence,” said
White.
The exhibition and reception are admission-free to the public. The
exhibition will be on view through Friday, Sept. 29. The Fine Arts
Center gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For
additional information, contact the Department of Art at 870-972-3050.
