Dr. Dennis White elected as
president
of communication association
Dr. Dennis White, associate professor and department
chair for speech communication at Arkansas State University in
Jonesboro, has been elected as president of the Arkansas State
Communication Association (ASCA) meeting in Bentonville.
Dr. White will represent the 150 members, comprised of both high school
and college professionals from throughout Arkansas. As president of the
ASCA, he will also attend the National Communication Association meeting
in San Antonio this November.
His projects for the year include: more community college participation,
establishing a presence with the Arkansas General Assembly and making
the ASCA a forum for graduate students to present research.
|As president of the ASCA, he will preside over meetings, including the
executive council and special meetings, as well as appointing committee
members and attending the national meeting.
Dr. White, a member of the faculty since 1974, has served as an
instructor in speech communication, coach of the debate team and as
department chair, the position he now holds. In 1989, he was named
Teacher of the Year. In 1990 he was named a President’s Fellow and has
served as president of the Faculty Association (1989 & 1990). In 1998,
he was named College Teacher of the Year for the state of Arkansas.
A retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve and a Vietnam
Veteran, he received his undergraduate degrees from the University of
Arkansas and his doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at
Carbondale.
He and his wife, Vicki, live in Jonesboro and have a grown daughter,
Diana White Corder.
