Beck PRIDE Center participant awarded Purple Heart May 2

May 5, 2009 -- Jonathan Wheeler, a participant in Arkansas State University’s Beck PRIDE Center for America’s Wounded Veterans, was presented the Purple Heart medal at a pinning ceremony Saturday, May 2, in an afternoon at the Arkansas National Guard Armory on the ASU campus.

Wheeler, an E4 combat medic with the 875^th Army National Guard, was honored with the award after receiving wounds as a result of hostile actions while deployed in Iraq in 2007.

He serves as a Beck PRIDE Center Veterans volunteer and is a founding member and secretary of the Arkansas Student Veterans Organization at ASU.

A freshman who is completing his first semester at Arkansas State, Wheeler is pursuing a degree in a health care related field. He is a native of Batesville, and he and his wife Candice have two sons, Maeson and Treyce.
