This Saturday, Aug.
20, “Welcome Week 2005” begins with “Move in Day” as students and their
families load into the residence halls for the new academic year at
Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
Highlighting Move in Day is the 7th annual “Watering Hole.” The
Craighead County Alumni Chapter will host the event from 9 a.m. until 1
p.m. handing out ice cold, bottled water and welcoming students, their
friends and family members at every residence hall on the ASU campus.
Move in Day begins at 9 a.m. and continues throughout the day.
On Sunday, Aug. 21, the First Year Convocation for the class of 2009
will be held at 2 p.m. in Fowler Center, Riceland Hall. Members of the
faculty will be formally introduced to the new class of students,
followed by a reception in the Grand Hall. Interestingly, this class
will graduate as the university celebrates its 100th year in 2009.
On Monday, Aug. 22, -- the first day of classes for the fall semester –
the Student Activities Board will sponsor a cookout in the courtyard of
the new Student Union from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23,
will include a sno-cone giveaway from 1 – 3 p.m. and entertainment by
noted hypnotist C.J. Johnson at 5 p.m. in the Student Union Center
Court.
The Community and Organization Fair will be Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 10
a.m. until 2 p.m. across the lawn of the Dean B. Ellis Library and the
Student Union Courtyard. Hundreds of representatives from campus
organizations and community businesses will present their products and
services to ASU students.
