Fowler Center presents the Vienna Choir Boys in concert, Sunday, Nov. 12

Nov. 1, 2006 -- The Fowler Center at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will present the Vienna Choir Boys in concert on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m.

The world’s best known boys choir, the Vienna Choir Boys, was founded in 1498 with six boys. Today numbers Vienna Choir Boysare about 100 choristers between the ages of 10 and 14, divided into four touring choirs.

Together the four choirs give about 300 concerts and performances each year in front of almost half a million people, visiting virtually all European countries, and they are frequent guests in Asia, Australia and the Americas.

The concert at ASU will feature sacred music from Europe, including pieces by Mozart and Mendelssohn and sacred music from around the world, including pieces from North and South America. Also on the program will be Austrian and International folk songs and two light polkas by Johann Strauss, Jr.

The choir’s repertoire includes everything from medieval to contemporary and experimental music, and they have even recorded a pop CD, with songs by Celine Dion, Madonna and Robbie Williams. The choir has contributed to a number of film soundtracks: "Primal Fear," "The 13th Floor," "Dokuritsu shonen-gasshoudan," the animated "Doraemon" and "L.I.E."

This presentation is one of the Riceland Distinguished Performances for 2006-07.

The next Fowler Center presentation will be Leahy on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 7:30 p.m.

Individual tickets to The Vienna Choir Boys performance are $30 and $20 for adults; $23 and $15 for students and senior citizens; and $10 and $6 for ASU students.

"Build your own season," includes tickets to any four events for $100 and $65 for adults, and $75 and $45 for senior citizens and students. ASU students may purchase "Build your own season" tickets for $30 and $20.
