University-Community Chorus
to form for trip to Carnegie Hall

Aug. 13, 2007 -- Local singers are invited to audition to join the Arkansas State University Singers-Community Chorus. The university-community chorus will consist of Jonesboro-area singers who will perform with the university singers twice; first in a performance in Jonesboro on Nov. 11, 2007, and in a performance on Jan. 13, 2008, in New York’s famed Carnegie Hall. Rehearsals will begin Monday, Aug. 27, at 6 p.m.

All interested singers of high school age and older may call Dr. Dale Miller at 972-3841 to arrange an audition appointment no later than Friday, Aug. 24. Miller, ASU director of choral activities, will conduct both the Jonesboro and New York performances of Mozart’s Coronation Mass. The combined group will be accompanied in Jonesboro by the ASU Concert Orchestra and accompanied in New York by the New England Symphonic Ensemble. Members of the Valley View High School choirs, under the direction of Jo Arlene Brinkle, will also participate in both the Jonesboro and New York performances.

Singers are not required to participate in the Carnegie Hall performance to perform in the Jonesboro concert. Those eligible may receive graduate or undergraduate credit for enrollment.  Those who choose not to register for the choir as a class may join the group by auditioning, paying approximately $10 for the choral score, and providing their own black formalwear.

For those going to New York, residency in New York will be Jan. 10-14, 2008, and the cost will be $1,455 for quad-occupancy hotel, airfare, New York Harbor dinner dance, music, and concert management. A $1,000 deposit is due for New York travelers on or before Monday, Aug. 27.

Rehearsals will be held in the ASU Fine Arts Center Choir Room, Room 144, on Mondays from 6-8 p.m., beginning Aug. 27. Participants will be expected to attend all rehearsals as well as the Jonesboro performance, scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the ASU Fowler Center’s Riceland Hall. Performance attire will be tuxedos for men and long black dresses (or black blouses and long black skirts) for women.  For further information, contact Dr. Dale Miller, ASU director of choral activities, at 972-3841.
