Thirty area schools participate in 'Through A Child's Eyes XXI'

March 27, 2007 -- The Arkansas State University Museum will open “Through a Child’s Eyes XXI” on Sunday, April 1, at 1:30 p.m., with a presentation of awards in the museum lobby. A reception will follow. The artists, their families, teachers, and the public are invited to this celebration.

The ASU Museum has sponsored “Through a Child’s Eyes” annually since 1987. Schools both public and private within 60 miles of Jonesboro are invited to submit 10 works of art from children age four through grade 8. If not exhibited by a school, individuals may enter artwork. This year, the exhibition contains 279 works of art entered by 30 schools in the region and 9 individuals.

Each participant in the exhibition is a winner, because each school is limited to 10 entries only. Awards will be given to the twenty works of art that are chosen by a panel of three judges. Five first place, second place, third place, and honorable mention ribbons will be awarded. Of those works, the museum accession committee will select five pieces for $50 purchase awards, if the young artists made them eligible for purchase. The Arkansas State University College of Education has generously contributed money for purchase awards and the Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport Sciences has donated money to frame the purchased works.

Participating schools include: Alma Spikes Elementary, Pocahontas; Black Rock Public School, Black Rock; Blessed Sacrament, Jonesboro; Brookland Elementary; Castleberry Elementary, Newport; Concordia Christian Academy, Jonesboro; Charlott Jones School of Art, Jonesboro; Corning Jr. High, Corning; Douglas MacArthur Junior High, Jonesboro; East Arkansas Community College Youth Art, Forrest City; Foundation of Arts, Jonesboro; Fox Meadow Elementary;  GCT/Delaplaine, Delaplaine; Gosnell Elementary, Gosnell; Hillcrest Elementary, Jonesboro; Jonesboro Kindergarten Center, Jonesboro; Lonoke Middle School, Lonoke; M.D. Williams Intermediate School, Pocahontas; Oak Grove Elementary and Middle Schools, Paragould; Park Elementary, Corning; Philadelphia Elementary, Jonesboro; Rector Elementary, Rector; Ridgefield Christian Elementary, Jonesboro; Riverside East Elementary, Caraway; Riverside West Elementary, Lake City; South Elementary, Jonesboro; Valley View Elementary and Intermediate Schools, Jonesboro; Walnut Ridge Elementary, Walnut Ridge; Weiner Elementary and High School, Weiner; Wynne Jr. High, Wynne.
