Groundbreaking for new student apartment complex to be held May 27

April 2, 2008 -- Arkansas State University’s Department of Residence Life, Division of Student Affairs, will break ground on a new student apartment complex on Tuesday, May 27, at 2 p.m. Update: Due to the threat of inclement weather, the groundbreaking will be held in the parking garage, southeast corner, lower level. The time for the groundbreaking is unchanged. The new apartment complex, located at the corner of Johnson Avenue and University Loop East, is scheduled to open in fall 2009. Speakers at the event will include Dr. Robert L. Potts, chancellor, ASU-Jonesboro, Mike Gibson, chair, ASU Board of Trustees, and Dr. Rick Stripling, vice chancellor, Division of Student Affairs.

This project was undertaken to provide more apartment-style living options for upperclassmen. Students must have 60 credit hours to be eligible to live in the new facility. ASU contracted with WD & D Architects and Treanor Architects to design an apartment facility to complement Collegiate Park Apartments.

The new 64,710 square-foot apartment complex will contain 189 beds, divided into two-, three-, and four-bedroom fully furnished units. Individual bedrooms will be rented out. Other amenities include a 3,820 square-foot commons building, which will provide a laundry area and activity space.
