ASU - Jonesboro:  Spanish and Latino
Heritage Week Sept. 17-21

Sept. 6, 2007 -- The Multicultural Affairs Office at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will sponsor Spanish and Latino Heritage Week, Monday through Friday, Sept.17- 21. "Un Nuevo Amanecer- A New Awareness" is the theme for the third year of the weeklong event.

The week's activities will kick off on Sept. 17 with guest speaker Ernesto Caravantes on "Latinos and Higher Education" at 6 p.m. in the ASU Student Union Auditorium. Other highlights of the week include a performance by Salsa Magic Dance Explosion on Sept. 19 in the Student Union Centennial Hall at 6:30 p.m. Also, a Community Awareness Experience workshop at the Hispanic Community Service Center on 311 W. Huntington Street will be at 6 p.m. on Sept. 20.

The Community Awareness Experience will be an informational workshop for members of the Hispanic community who reside in Jonesboro and surrounding areas. Information concerning available services and resources at ASU will be provided during the workshop. This will be the first event of its kind in the Jonesboro community.

More activities for the week include a Latinos & Technology display on Tuesday, Sept. 18 starting at noon in the Student Union Center Court and a movie spectacular featuring "Lorca Disappearance of Garcia" that won Best Motion Picture at the Imagen Foundation Awards in 1998. The film will be shown in the Student Union Auditorium on Friday, Sept. 21, at 6:30 p.m. ASU students who attend any event will be able to register for the opportunity to win a free Ipod Shuffle.
