The event will take place on the ASU campus in Riceland Hall of the Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr. The group’s performance will be the sixth event of the 2004-05 Lecture~Concert Series and is free and open to the public. Sotavento’s folk-inspired music brings to life the musical heritage of Latin America. The group performs with more than 30 instruments of strings, winds and percussion which have roots in Pre-Columbian, European, African or Mestizo cultures. The musicians of Sotavento hail from Puerto Rico, Spain, El Salvador, Mexico and the United States, and each member blends his or her individual style into the group’s original music. The group has released seven original recordings, the first being “Sotavento,” a self-titled album released in 1982. They have appeared across North America and Europe, including major folk festivals in New York, Puerto Rico and Philadelphia. The final Lecture~Concert Series event will be on Thursday, April 7, with a performance by Little Milton, legendary bluesman, as a joint presentation with the Delta Blue Symposium XI: Imagining the Delta. The Lecture~Concert Series presents diverse programs to enrich the cultural life of the campus, community and region.
