Shain
elected VP of Journalism and Mass Communication group
Dr. Russ Shain, dean of the College of Communications at Arkansas State University, has been elected vice president of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication. The association is the primary international organization of journalism and mass communication administrators. It promotes improved practices in journalism and mass communication education, and generates funding for innovative programs. Shain will become ASJMC president-elect in 2003 and president in 2004. Prior to being named dean of the College of Communication at ASU in 1990, Shain was dean of journalism at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The College of Communications at ASU includes three academic departments: Journalism and Printing, Radio-Television, and Speech Communication. Programs are offered at the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels. ASJMC administers the Knight Foundation funds that underwrite Newspaper-in-Residence programs and Broadcasters-in-Residence programs throughout the country. ASU has just completed a year as part of the Newspaper-in-Residence program and will participate in the Broadcasters-in-Residence program in 2002-2003. The organization also sponsors two professional development workshops annually, along with the Journalism and Mass Communication Leadership Institute for Diversity. # # # |
