Dr. Russ Shain, dean of the College of Communications at Arkansas State University, has been elected Dr. Russ Shain ( hi-res version also available)vice president of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication.

The association is the primary international organization of journalism and mass communication administrators. It promotes improved practices in journalism and mass communication education, and generates funding for innovative programs.

Prior to being named dean of the College of Communication at ASU in 1990, Shain was dean of journalism at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

ASU has just completed a year as part of the Newspaper-in-Residence program and will participate in the Broadcasters-in-Residence program in 2002-2003.

The organization also sponsors two professional development workshops annually, along with the Journalism and Mass Communication Leadership Institute for Diversity.
