May 2, 2006 -- Arkansas State University in Jonesboro conducted its 13th annual service recognition and distinguished performance awards program today for classified and non-classified personnel.

This program was initiated in 1994 to recognize outstanding job performance and long-time service by the university’s non-faculty employees, according to Dr. Les Wyatt, president of the university.

Eight employees received Distinguished Performance Awards in their respective employment categories.

The employees, their departments, and their employment categories were:

-- Karen Hancock, Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Special Education, clerical/secretarial
-- Dr. Lonnie Williams, Student Affairs, executive/administrator
-- D.A. Davis, Environmental Health & Safety, non-faculty/professional
-- Ashley Stripling, Student Union, part-time
-- Mia Sheppard-Taylor, Facilities Management – housekeeping, service/maintenance
-- David Foster, Facilities Management – mechanical/electrical, skilled crafts
– Janis Cook, Facilities Management – construction office, technical/paraprofessional
– Matt Sanchez, Financial Aid, customer service

Each winner of the Distinguished Performance Award received a plaque and a savings bond.

One employee, Helen J. Foster in the Registrar’s Office, was recognized for 40 years of service to ASU.

Four employees were cited for 30 years service and they were: Charles Carr in the English and Philosophy Department, Freda Whitt Harris in the Controller’s Office, Ronald J. Looney in Publications and Creative Services and Lois J. Travis of the Small Business Development Center.

Six employees were recognized for 25 or more years of service and they were: Mark Denny, Linda Dickerson, David Holt, Sharon Lee, JW Mason and Jessie Washington.
In addition, 13 employees were recognized for 20 years of service. The employees were: Marilyn Brewer, Lorerinda Budd, Terry Carty, Janis Cook, Ray Ferguson, Jeffery Gulley, Gail Hudson, Sherry Johnson, Sharon McDaniel, Thelma Melton, Robin Payne, Diana Sanders and Danny Wilson.

Sixteen employees who have retired or will retire during this fiscal year were also recognized. They include: Jimmy Carson, Jimmy Griffin, Mary Beth Jones, Larry Jordan, Gary Mode, Dewayne Powell and Rosa Richey, Facilities Management; David Ward, Information and Technology Services; Margarett Daniels and Catherine Henderson, Library; Helen Foster, Registrar’s Office; Noble Graddy, Judy Tate, Leon Treat and Betty Wiseman, Residence Life; and Ruth Tarpley, Graduate School.
An additional 28 employees were recognized for 10 years of service.
