College of Sciences and Mathematics
presents awards to top graduates

April 28, 2005 --The College of Sciences and Mathematics at Arkansas State University named 14 outstanding graduates as recipients of departmental awards for 2004-05 during the college’s annual honors banquet, according to Dr. Hector Flores, dean of the college.

The departmental awards are presented during Convocation of Scholars each year to the graduate in each degree program who has excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to the department.

Those receiving awards and their respective degree programs were:
            Dana J. Coker of Walnut Ridge, BS, chemistry; Bridget L. Simmons of Marvell, BA, chemistry; Hunter Broadaway of Jonesboro, BS, physics; Shayna Bradley of Jonesboro, BS, pre-professional studies; Blake Anthony Grisham of Black Oak, BS, wildlife ecology and management; and Jeffery Ryan Hall of Little Rock, BS, environmental biology.

Also receiving awards were Kevin L. Batchelor of Kennett, Mo., BS, computer science; Ashley S. Holder of Strawberry, BSE, mathematics education; Dana J. Coker of Walnut Ridge, BS, mathematics.

            Graduate student awards were presented to four candidates for the master's degree.  The students and their respective programs were: Bobby Fokidis of Toronto, Ontario, biological sciences; David Clarke of Jonesboro, chemistry and physics; Joe L. Burleson of Hardy, computer science; and Lucinda G. Crain of Paragould, mathematics and statistics.

            Also, Jennifer Bouldin of Paragould received the doctoral research award in the environmental sciences Ph.D. program.
